The spot

A pretty remote spot on the southwest of Tiree, in Scotland's Inner Hebrides. The bay has a mix of reef breaks and a rocky beach break, offering lefts and rights. Rocks are a known hazard throughout, and the inside section can get quite rocky too. Works on all tides, and picks up swell pretty consistently from the southwest. East winds are offshore. It tends to get blown out a lot though - onshore conditions are common. Spring, and April in particular, seems to be the most reliable window for clean waves. Rarely gets crowded. Access is via the track between the villages of Bharrapol and Middleton, visible from the road south of Middleton. There are no facilities at the beach itself (no toilets, showers, etc). Blackhouse Watersports runs surf lessons and kit hire on the island, but they operate out of Balevullin beach rather than here. There are no lifeguards on Tiree.
